Getting a new entertainment space in Reading
I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we lacked space. I decided to look near Forbury Gardens.
I stumbled upon the website while browsing and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a quote that seemed fair for the work.
The journey of organising this renovation was honestly quite involved. I dedicated several hours reflecting on the configuration of the space before ever picking up the phone. My living area has constantly felt slightly incomplete, and owning a dedicated zone for beverages seemed like the ideal fix to that problem. I remember standing in my hallway looking at a cluttered surface covered with bottles and realising that something had to shift. The first interaction with the staff was extremely simple, which gave me assurance. We talked different aesthetics, from modern sleek looks to something classic and timber textures. I was quite impressed by how much detail they requested about the dimensions and the existing decor of my house. It felt like they genuinely desired the final result to match seamlessly with the balance of the property. I provided multiple angles in the images I sent, making sure each corner was visible. They explained that the custom type of the unit meant that precision was entirely critical to avoid any problems during the fitting. We went back and forth on potential materials, looking at swatches of quartz and various types of wood grain. It is amazing how many consideration goes into selecting the right handles, like knobs and fittings, which could completely alter the vibe of the whole construction. I needed a space where I could comfortably prepare drinks for friends without having to repeatedly dash back to the kitchen for ice or glasses. The ease of possessing all items in one spot was the main driver for this investment. We finalised the blueprint following a short consultation where all my concerns regarding plumbing and lighting points were addressed. I liked that they did not hurry the design phase, taking the effort to make sure that the width of the shelving was sufficient for my largest bottles. It seemed like a joint process instead than a standard transaction, which is hard to locate nowadays.
The fitting date came faster than expected, and the fitter was on time and prepared. He started by laying down safety sheets to ensure my carpet stayed tidy. Watching the components being unloaded was fascinating, as the quality of the wood was instantly obvious. He meticulously verified the levels of the floor before attaching the base frame of the bar. I watched as the structure gradually took form, changing a plain alcove into a practical piece. The degree of skill required in fitting the panels to the uneven surfaces of my older home was impressive. He mentioned why each section slotted in to create total stability. We wasted a little duration deciding on the final position for the built-in fridge, making sure it was accessible to open but hidden away from direct sight. The installation of the counter was the most satisfying part of the entire process. Seeing the smooth surface at last sitting on the base helped the vision feel real. He then fitted the glass backing, which instantly caused the space to feel double the size. The lighting were wired next, and testing them for the first time was a highlight. The soft light underneath the shelves showcased the bottles beautifully. I was able to visualise exactly how handy this might be during night events. The worker was highly careful, taking the effort to wipe down every area and clear any dust made during the drilling. He also showed me the way to move the shelves if I ever wanted to store larger pieces. The focus to detail was truly exceptional, right down to the silicone beads along the edges. It was obvious that he had great pride in his craft, which is always reassuring to witness. We conducted a last inspection of the finished work to ensure everything was perfect. I noted that a single knob was slightly wobbly, and he tightened it immediately with a fast twist of a tool. This thoroughness was just what I was looking for when I booked the service.
The completed bar appears completely amazing and has turned into the main point of my downstairs. It provides a classy vibe that was previously lacking from my reception space. The capacity is immense, enabling me to sort all my spirits, mixers, and fancy glasses in one cohesive place. No more do I need to rummage through cluttered kitchen cabinets to find a bottle opener or a certain kind of glass. Everything has its rightful home, which renders hosting so more simpler and relaxing. I enjoy the way the materials reflect the sunlight in the evenings, creating a warm ambience. My guests have already praised the setup multiple times, with some even inquiring for the contact of the company who built it. It really seems like a custom extra tailored specifically for my lifestyle. The elevation of the countertop is ideal for standing by with a drink, and the built-in lighting strips offer just the right level of illumination without being overpowering. Even when not in use, it serves as a lovely item of furniture that elevates the entire look of the house. I used a bit effort arranging my collection on the racks to create a visual display. The mirrored back really assist in displaying the labels and adding dimension to the tight alcove. It has encouraged me to try creating different drinks that I before thought were too complicated to bother in a standard kitchen. Having the sink nearby would have been nice, but the area constraints resulted in we opted without it to preserve cabinet space. This was a conscious decision we made at the design stage, and I do not regret it. The additional drawer room for napkins and accessories is far more useful to me in the long period.
There were a couple of minor limitations that are fair to noting for a honest perspective. The wait time for the custom doors was a bit longer than I originally hoped. It took about eight days from the initial deposit to the final fitting date. While this is expected for high-quality work, it meant a some of waiting on my part. I had wanted to have it finished for a specific birthday, but we passed that date by a week. However, the updates from the office regarding the delay were consistent, click here so I was never kept in the unknowing. I would wait a little longer for a result that is built to last than receive a rushed work that fails after a few months. The start cost estimate was additionally slightly lower than the final invoice, mainly because I chose to improve the handles and add extra internal lights midway through the build. These changes were entirely my decision, and the team was extremely clear about the additional fees required. Another small issue was the amount of boxes remaining following the fitting. Although the technician tidied up the work site well, there was a significant amount of waste to get rid of in my bins. It was not a big deal, but something to consider if you have little waste room. Despite these minor points, the overall experience was very good. The quality of the finish is much superior to anything I might have purchased off-the-shelf. It feels sturdy and well-constructed, and I am confident it will withstand decades of use. I believe the worth it has added to my property far exceeds the upfront cost. It has transformed the way I enjoy my living space, making it far more social. I no anymore feel cluttered when people visit.
Thinking back on the whole experience, I am really glad I opted forward with it. The initial idea came from a visit to a neighbour's place in Oxford, where they had a similar bar. I realised then how greatly it improved the movement of the evening. When I got back to Reading, I began researching local firms and discovered that going with a bespoke outfit was the only route to get the precise look I desired. The chance to pick every detail, from the shade of the stain to the placement of the plug outlets, ensured the end product was exactly as I pictured. I even got a small hidden drawer built for keeping expensive tools like silver spoons. This kind of customisation is what renders the service special. It didn't feel like a generic piece being fitted into a room where it did not fit. Instead, it feels like it has forever been a segment of the architecture. If you are thinking about a similar home improvement, my advice would be to remain patient and invest the time on the design part. It is far better to change a drawing than it is to fix a unit once it is built. The knowledge offered during the beginning was invaluable in stopping me from doing simple mistakes, such as placing the cooler too near to a heat source. These small details of wisdom are what you pay for when you hire skilled professionals. I am currently looking at other parts of my house to see where further I might install built-in storage. The outcome of this fitted project has given me the drive to tackle a bigger task in the kitchen next year. It has been a great upgrade to my life, and I look forward to many seasons of using it with family and friends. Finding the right balance between style and function was the aim, and I think we achieved it completely. The process from a cluttered corner to a sleek hosting hub was truly worth the effort and money spent. I today have a space that I am truly proud to share with to others. Reading has many nice venues to go for a cocktail, but truthfully, I now prefer staying at home and using my own personal setup. It provides the same atmosphere without the noise or the commute. That itself was worth the whole project. I am so happy with how the ambience functions in the evening, providing a relaxing environment to unwind after a long day at work. It is the small treats like this that make home life so rewarding and fulfilling. I really value the craft that went into the final product. The manner the doors shut with a silent click tells plenty about the construction quality. No detail was ignored, and the total appearance is exactly what I hoped it would be when I originally started this process. It is a credit to the talent of the team and the quality of the components utilised. I am a very satisfied client.
